MERRIMAC INDUSTRIES FILES PATENTS FOR NEW RAPID SUTURING DEVICE
WEST CALDWELL, N.J., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Merrimac Industries, Inc. (AMEX: MRM), a leader in the aerospace high-reliability component business, today announced the filing of two medical device patents by their attorneys, Pennie & Edmonds.
Using the mechanical expertise gained in producing complex miniature electronic devices, Merrimac has broadened its engineering program and has conceived a radically new surgical suturing catheter and a suturing cassette device, which are expected to greatly enhance arthroscopic and laproscopic suturing procedures.
The devices are intended to be adaptable for the different suturing (and ligation) situations found within the human body, as well as for veterinary applications. It is expected that the new devices will speed the suturing procedure. Merrimac is now looking to market the two patents to a suitable manufacturer of surgical equipment.
Merrimac Industries, Inc., is located in West Caldwell, where it employs 120 persons in the manufacture of high performance components for communications, defense and aerospace. Merrimac is listed as MRM on the American Stock Exchange.
