MERRILL LYNCH TO EXPAND PRESENCE IN BOSTON AREA

BOSTON, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. (NYSE: MER), announced today that it plans to expand and realign its Private Client Group in the Boston area by opening three new branch offices and adding financial consultants and support staff.
In addition to taking additional space at the One Financial Center office, Merrill Lynch plans to open new offices in Hingham on the South Shore, in Peabody on the North Shore and a second office in Wellesley.
As part of this expansion and realignment, the firm has decided not to renew its lease at One Beacon St., which expires in October 1994. All of the financial consultants at Beacon Street, as well as the support staff, will be offered the opportunity to relocate to another Merrill Lynch facility.
The new facilities and the expansion at existing locations will allow Merrill Lynch to hire more employees, including the addition of approximately 40 new financial consultants.
"This expansion is due primarily to the growth in business and reflects our growing commitment and investment in the Boston area," said Paul R. Fehrenbach, district director for Merrill Lynch Private Client.
According to Mr. Fehrenbach, the decision to not renew the lease at One Beacon St. reflects the ongoing strategy of the firm to develop business in offices that are located closer to where the clients live and work.
The firm also announced the completion of a major renovation in the Burlington office and plans for an expansion of the Worcester branch office. The Merrill Lynch office in Hyannis will be relocated and expanded. Additionally, the firm plans to establish a presence in Andover and in Portsmouth, N.H. in the near future.
