MERRILL LYNCH RE-ELECTS FOUR DIRECTORS AND ANNOUNCES ELECTION OF NEW DIRECTOR, FORMER SEC COMMISSIONER AULANA PETERS

 NEW YORK, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. (NYSE: MER) today announced the re-election of four directors to serve additional three-year terms. They are William 0. Bourke, retired Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Reynolds Metals Company; Stephen L. Hammerman, Vice Chairman and General Counsel of Merrill Lynch; John J. Phelan, Jr., former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the New York Stock Exchange; and Dr. Charles A. Sanders, Chairman of Glaxo Inc.
 Merrill Lynch also announced the election of a new director, Aulana L. Peters, a former Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission, to a three-year term on its Board.
 Merrill Lynch stockholders voted on the election of all five nominees at the corporation's annual meeting today.
 Merrill Lynch Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Daniel P. Tully commented, "I am very pleased that our company will continue to benefit from the thoughtful leadership provided by Messrs. Bourke, Hammerman, Phelan and Dr. Sanders. And we're delighted to welcome Aulana Peters to our Board. With her distinguished record as a securities lawyer, regulator and public servant, she will be an outstanding addition to our Board."
 Ms. Peters, 52, was appointed to the SEC by President Reagan in 1984 and served until 1988, when she returned to the law firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, with offices in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.
 A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, Ms. Peters earned a B.A. in Philosophy from the College of New Rochelle in 1963 and a J.D. from the University of Southern California Law Center in 1973. She joined Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher the same year and became a Partner in the Litigation Department in 1980.
 Her areas of specialization include securities law and litigation, exchange related matters and accountants' liability.
 Ms. Peters also is a director of 3M Company, Mobil Corporation, Northrop Corporation, and the New York Stock Exchange, where she serves as the Exchange Liaison on the Market Regulatory Advisory Committee. She is a member of The Council on Foreign Relations and The Black Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles.
 She and her husband, Bruce F. Peters, M.D., reside in Los Angeles.
