MERRIAM TO HEAD WORLDWIDE PFIZER ANIMAL HEALTH GROUP
NEW YORK, May 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Brower A. Merriam has been named

president of the worldwide Pfizer Animal Health Group, effective today. Mr. Merriam succeeds M. William Roche who has retired following 39 years with the company.
Jean-Paul Valles, vice chairman of Pfizer Inc, to whom the Animal Health Business reports, said Merriam has been serving as executive vice president of the Animal Health Group since Roche announced his retirement last December, and that this experience will provide for a smooth transition in this segment of the company's business.
Merriam joined Pfizer in 1968 as country manager for Peru. Three years later, he was promoted to a similar responsibility for Argentina and, in 1973, became president for Latin America, with headquarters in Coral Gables, Fla. In 1984, he moved to the firm's New York City headquarters and assumed additional responsibility for Southeast Asia. In 1990, he was named executive vice president for Pfizer International.
As president of Pfizer's Animal Health Group, Merriam assumes responsibility for one of the world's leading animal health businesses. The firm markets an extensive line of injectable antibiotics, anthelmintics, and feed medications in more than 140 countries throughout the world.
Prior to joining Pfizer, Merriam was graduated from Williams College in Williamstown, Mass., with a degree in Geology. Married to the former Diana Willers, the Merriams have three children, and reside in Stamford, Conn.
Pfizer Inc is a diversified, research-based health care company with businesses in pharmaceuticals, hospital products, consumer products, animal health, and specialty chemicals and minerals. The company reported sales of approximately $6.95 billion for 1991.
