 PRODUCTIVITY SOFTWARE FROM APPLIX
 MARLBORO, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Merisel (NASDAQ: MSEL) announced it has signed an agreement with Applix, Inc. to distribute its workgroup productivity software, Asterx, to UNIX resellers in the United States. Asterx is available for all major hardware platforms supporting UNIX, and will be distributed through Merisel's dedicated UNIX division.
 "UNIX-based resellers are hungry for application software products that are graphical, easy-to-use, and feature the ability to be customized. With that in mind, they'll be quite pleased with Asterx," said Merisel's vice president of inside sales Kris Rogers. "It's software applications like Asterx that are playing a major role in the acceptance and growth of UNIX-based solutions in the commercial market," added Rogers.

 Asterx is a powerful suite of workgroup applications and tools that offers users the ability to create, edit and exchange information in text, graphical or multi-media formats across networks of UNIX and X- based workstations. Asterx offers advanced word processing, integrated graphics, as well as optional spreadsheets, mail and filter packs for easy import and export of files. Its flexibility is greatly enhanced by its extension language facility (ELF), which users can employ to easily customize Asterx and integrate or live-link it with a wide variety of third-party products.
 In an effort to recruit new resellers, Merisel, Digital Equipment Corp. and Applix are currently running a cooperative ad campaign in Computer Reseller News and VAR Business and are planning an aggressive promotional direct-mail campaign to Merisel's 5,000 UNIX-based resellers.
