MERCY NAMED HCA VICE PRESIDENT

 NASHVILLE, Tenn., Nov. 23 ~PRNewswire~ -- HCA - Hospital Corporation of America (NYSE: HCA) today announced the promotion of Scott L. Mercy to vice president-Operations Support.
 The announcement was made by HCA's Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas F. Frist Jr.
 Mercy, 31, joined HCA in 1983 as investor relations specialist and served as assistant to the president from 1985 to 1987. He was named director-Financial Operations Support in 1987.
 In addition to his former responsibilities for Operations Accounting~Financial Support, he will manage HCA's Contract Administration~Purchasing, Health Information Management, Bio-Medical Services and Corporate Services departments.
 A graduate of the University of Denver, Mercy received his B.S. degree in accounting in 1983. He is secretary of the board of directors and a member of the finance and executive committees of the Tennessee Special Olympics.
 A native of Houston, Mercy was raised in Nashville. He and his wife, Joy, have two children, Sarah, 5, and Mason, 3.
