 MERCER INTERNATIONAL'S NET INCOME UP 48 PERCENT IN 1991
 VANCOUVER, British Columbia, March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Mercer


International Inc. (NMS/NASDAQ: MERCS) today reported operating results for the year ended Dec. 31, 1991.
 For the 1991 year, revenues rose 174 percent to $70.1 million from $25.6 million in 1990. Net income advanced 48 percent to $8.5 million, or $0.75 per share, compared to $5.7 million, or $0.54 per share, in 1990.
 Revenues for the fourth quarter rose 106 percent to $26.4 million, compared to $12.8 million a year earlier. Net income for the three months increased to $4.1 million, or $0.37 per share an 8 percent gain from the $3.8 million, or $0.36 per share, in the comparable 1990 period.
 In reviewing last year, William H.W. Atkinson, vice chairman, said, "We are extremely pleased with the expansive progress and results for 1991 considering the difficult global economic conditions. Mercer's long-range commitment will continue to focus on revenue and earnings- based investments and acquisition opportunities with particular emphasis in the environmental field in both Europe and North America."
