MEP blasts Gormley over water; QUALITY.

ALMOST two-thirds of Irish people see water quality as a serious problem, according to a new EU survey.

Speaking from the European Parliament in Strasbourg, Dublin Labour MEP Proinsias De Rossa said Environment Minister John Gormley must "get to grips" with water pollution.

The survey indicated 46 per cent of Irish respondents say water quality has deteriorated over the past five years and almost 64 per cent see water quality as a serious problem.

Proinsias De Rossa added: "Communities all across Ireland have been plagued with water pollution problems over recent years.

"John Gormley TD has been clearly has to get to grips with the problem of water quality."
