MENTOR CORPORATION APPLAUDS F.D.A. PANEL DECISION ON BREAST IMPLANTS
SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Mentor Corporation (NASDAQ: MNTR) applauded a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory panel's decision yesterday to allow breast implants to remain on the market.
"We are extremely pleased with the outcome of the panel hearings, and we look forward to the opportunity to present additional data on the safety of our products," said Dennis Condon, president of Mentor H/S, the division of Mentor Corporation which manufactures and markets both silicone gel-filled breast implants and saline (salt water) filled implants.
The FDA panel's decision allows Mentor to continue marketing its devices which are used in the reconstruction of breasts lost to cancer and surgery for breast augmentation.
"This decision by a voting panel from the FDA, combined with the 27 years of experience plastic surgeons have in using these devices, justifies our confidence in the manufacturers' reputation for safety and innovation...I feel this decision will benefit the public as a whole," said Paul Striker, M.D., a board certified plastic surgeon in New York City.
Mentor Corporation produces medical and surgical devices for the specialties of urology, plastic surgery and ophthalmology.
