MEMPHIS SELLS OUT NFL PREMIUM SEATING IN 30 DAYS; LEASES 100 SKYBOXES AND 8,302 CLUB SEATS

MEMPHIS, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Memphis Pro Football Managing Partner Billy Dunavant announced today the sellout of all NFL premium seating, consisting of 100 skyboxes and 8,302 club seats in a campaign that lasted only 30 days.
"Our group would like to thank the people of Memphis and the Mid- South for their support of the premium seating campaign on such short notice," said Dunavant. "We are confident that the league's decision- makers will judge Memphis as a logical choice for expansion.
"A few people wrongly interpreted the decision to delay our premium seating sales campaign as a sign of weakness," said Dunavant. "On the contrary, we waited until we were sure that all the members of our group understood and were comfortable with the details and implications of the campaign as prescribed by the league. After all, the people of Memphis have been down this road before."
After narrowly losing out to Seattle and Tampa Bay when the NFL last expanded in 1976, NFL owners passed a resolution saying that Memphis would receive the strongest consideration for a new NFL franchise the next time the league expanded.
"Resolutions aside, Memphis is still the most logical choice for NFL expansion," said Memphis Mayor Willie Herrenton. "Aside from the fact that the community came through on the premium seating campaign, we have an untouched market, a rock-solid ownership group that is second to none, and a city with a name that is recognized and can be marketed worldwide."
After making the announcement at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium this afternoon, the 6'6" Herrenton carried an NFL football across the goal line, and enthusiastically "spiked" it into the Liberty Bowl endzone natural turf as a symbol of the fever-pitch enthusiasm displayed by the people of Memphis and the Mid-South who have been pursuing an NFL expansion franchise since 1965.
