 MELROE COMPANY MANAGEMENT SUCCESSION ANNOUNCED
SOUTH BEND, Ind., Sept. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Clark Equipment Company

(NYSE: CKL) today announced that James D. Kertz has been appointed president of Melroe Company, Fargo, N.D. He succeeds Robert N. Spolum, who becomes chairman of the board of Melroe. The announcement was made by Leo J. McKernan, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Clark Equipment Company.
In announcing the appointment, McKernan said, "In addition to his new position, Bob Spolum continues as a senior vice president of Clark through February 1993, when he retires from the company. The five-month interim period allows for a smooth transition and assures continuity in the Melroe organization." McKernan added that "Mr. Spolum will continue his relationship with the company as a consultant for at least three years following his 1993 retirement." Spolum joined Melroe in September 1963 as controller. He became president of the company in 1972, three years after it was purchased by Clark. He was named a vice president of Clark in 1973, and senior vice president in 1988.
Kertz has been with Melroe since 1969, serving in various marketing and administrative capacities. In 1978 he was named general manager of Melroe's European marketing operations in Brussels, Belgium. He returned to Melroe headquarters in Fargo as vice president of marketing in 1982, and moved into his present position as executive vice president in 1987.
Melroe manufactures skid-steer and articulated loaders, mini- excavators and self-propelled crop sprayers at plants located in Gwinner and Bismark, N.D. Its corporate headquarters office is in Fargo, with international marketing offices in Brussels, Belgium, Singapore, and Coral Gables, Fla.
Clark Equipment Company's business is the design, manufacturer and sale of skid-steer loaders, construction machinery, transmissions for on-highway vehicles, and axles and transmissions for off-highway equipment.
