MELLON BANK ELECTS ROTAN E. LEE TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 PITTSBURGH, Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Rotan E. Lee, president of the Philadelphia Board of Education and partner in the Philadelphia law firm of Fox, Rothschild, O'Brien & Frankel, has been elected to the boards of directors of Mellon Bank Corporation (NYSE: MEL) and Mellon Bank N.A., effective Nov. 15.
 "Rotan is an outstanding attorney and active community leader, and we are very pleased he is joining our board," said Frank V. Cahouet, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Mellon Bank Corporation. "His commitment to business and civic organizations, and his work with minority businesses, is especially noteworthy."
 Lee joined Fox, Rothschild, O'Brien & Frankel in l988 after serving as founding partner of the law firm of Burrell, Waxman, Donaghy & Lee in Philadelphia. From l979 to l983 he served as director and chief counsel to the Minority Business Legal Defense and Education Fund, Inc. in Washington, D.C. He also served as legal counsel to the Subcommittee Task Force on Minority Business Enterprise and General Oversight for the U.S. House of Representatives, and as senior legislative assistant for U.S. Rep. Parren J. Mitchell, M.C.
 Lee received a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and a juris doctor degree from the Antioch School of Law in Washington, D.C. He received the Paul Porter Award from the Antioch School of Law, and was the recipient of the University of Maryland's Rose Walt Scholarship.
 In addition to serving as president of the Board of Education, School District of Philadelphia, Lee serves as district chairman of the Unity District of Philadelphia Boy Scouts of America. In addition, he served on the boards of the Philadelphia Cultural Fund, the Philadelphia Orchestra Association, the Urban League of Philadelphia and the Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia.
