 TO ITS BOARD OF DIRECTORS
 PITTSBURGH, Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Mellon Bank Corporation (NYSE: MEL) announced today that Carol R. Brown, president of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, has been elected to the boards of directors of Mellon Bank Corporation and Mellon Bank, N.A., effective Aug. 18.
 Brown has served in her present capacity since 1986. The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is a private, non-profit organization established to assist cultural and economic growth in downtown Pittsburgh.

"The Corporation and our shareholders certainly will benefit from her talents and perspective. She has developed the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust into a nationally recognized organization and a vital economic and cultural force in Pittsburgh and the region."
 Prior to joining the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, Brown was the director of the Allegheny County Department of Parks, Recreation & Conservation from 1984-85 and director of the Allegheny County Bureau of Cultural Programs from 1979 to 1985. She also served as deputy controller of Allegheny County and was a member of the faculty of Chatham College in Pittsburgh.
 Brown currently serves as chairman of the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts and a director of the Greater Pittsburgh Office of Promotion, Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, and the Pennsylvania Public Television Network. She is a trustee of The Carnegie, Carlow College and Carnegie Mellon University. She is a recipient of numerous honors and awards including the YWCA "Tribute to Women" Leadership Award in Arts and Letters, the Service Award from the Citizens for the Arts in Pennsylvania, and the Honor Award from the Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
