MEGATAPE ANNOUNCES TAPE STATION 8, MULTI-FUNCTIONAL TAPE BACKUP SYSTEM

SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- MegaTape today announced its Tape Station 8, an innovative, high-performance 8MM tape backup system featuring dual half-height 5 Gigabyte (GB) tape drives in a compact tabletop enclosure. The system offers on-line dual tape sequential, mirroring/shadowing capabilities and off-line tape copy, tape verify functions. These additional off-line features allow users of earlier version 2.0 GB tapes to convert to newer version 5.0 GB tapes in either standard or compressed mode and provide bit-for-bit comparison of master tape/tape copy without using the host CPU. Also, Tape Station 8 reads and writes to several tape capacities and formats. The product's SCSI interface allows connection to a range of host processors such as DEC, SUN, DG, HP, Silicon Graphics and IBM RS/6000. Under As/400, Tape Station 8 supports either 2440 or 9436 emulations.
Users are offered quick and easy access to a variety of available operations through a central control panel. All operations include step-by-step instructions. In all functions, data transfer rates occur at maximum speed, regardless of whether reading and writing to a single drive or both drives simultaneously.
Tape Station 8's drive capacities are 10 GB non-compressed and 20 GB compressed.
The product is scheduled to ship in late June, and orders are being accepted for the following two basic models:
-- MTS-8503/2 Table Top Enclosure, Dual Exabyte 8505 drives, S.E. or DIFF Interface, Display, Compression; and
-- MTS-0030/2 Table Top Enclosure, S.E. or DIFF Interface, Display, Compression.
