MEDTRONIC PLANS EXPANSION PROJECT TO ACCOMMODATE GROWTH OF BUSINESSES
 MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Medtronic, Inc. (NYSE: MDT) announced today that the company will begin construction next month on a $10 million expansion of its worldwide headquarters in suburban Minneapolis to accommodate growth of its businesses and expansion of its workforce.
 William W. George, president and chief executive officer, said groundbreaking is scheduled in December on a 103,000-square-foot addition to the Medtronic Business and Technology Center, one of the three facilities at its headquarters site in Fridley. Completion of the project is expected by December 1992.
 Medtronic organizations primarily affected are the pacemaker and heart valve businesses, which have been augmenting product lines and building market share for several years.
 The company's full time worldwide workforce has grown from 5,200 in 1987 to 8,000 currently. Approximately 3,200 are now employed in the Twin Cities area, George said.
 Medtronic is a leading developer and manufacturer of biomedical devices for improving cardiovascular and neurological health.
