MEDTRONIC NAMES CHEVALIER AND HALVERSON TO CORPORATE QUALITY, REGULATORY POSITIONS

 MINNEAPOLIS, June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Medtronic, Inc. (NYSE: MDT) today announced the appointment of Peter A. Chevalier as vice president, Corporate Quality and Regulatory Affairs, and Fred Halverson as vice president, Corporate Regulatory Affairs.
 Chevalier will add leadership of Medtronic's quality improvement initiatives to the management of the company's regulatory affairs for which he had been responsible as vice president, Corporate Regulatory Affairs. Halverson, who was director, Corporate Regulatory Affairs, for Medtronic from 1974 to 1991, will coordinate the company's regulatory practices and operational relationships with agencies that regulate the medical device industry worldwide. He will report to Chevalier.
 Chevalier, 53, joined Medtronic in 1981 as director of Clinical Evaluation for the pacemaker business unit. He was director of Research and Development for the heart valves business from 1985 to 1991 when he was appointed to head the company's relationships with regulatory agencies.
 Halverson, 53, has been president and chief executive officer of Cardia Catheter Co. since 1991.
 Chevalier and Halverson will assume their new responsibilities on July 1 and July 12, respectively.
