 MEDTRONIC APPOINTS BARNES AS VICE PRESIDENT,
 COMMUNICATIONS AND CORPORATE RELATIONS
 MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Medtronic, Inc. (NYSE: MDT) has announced the appointment of Celia K. Barnes as Vice President, Communications and Corporate Relations.
 Barnes has responsibility for corporate and employee communications, media relations, graphic communications, media services and public relations. She will continue to direct community affairs and philanthropy, including programs of the Medtronic Foundation, and will have expanded responsibilities for planning and coordination of the company's communications activities worldwide.
 Barnes, 48, joined Medtronic as Director of Public Relations in 1987 after serving as Director, University Relations, at Virginia Commonwealth University. She has also held positions as Executive Director, Communications, with the American Bankers Association and Vice President, Public Affairs, for the Direct Marketing Association.
 Medtronic, Inc., headquartered in Minneapolis, is a leading developer and manufacturer of biomedical devices for improving cardiovascular and neurological health.
