MEDIVATORS REPORTS RESULTS

CANNON FALLS, Minn., May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- MediVators, Inc. (NASDAQ: MVAT) announced sales for the first quarter ending March 31, 1993, of $627,178, an increase of 41 percent from the sales of $443,855 in the first quarter of 1992. The company generated a net loss of ($340,898) or ($.12) per share in the first quarter of 1993 compared to a net loss of ($159,450) or ($.06) per share in the first quarter of 1992.
The increase in sales in the first quarter is largely attributable to the additional sales generated by the MedFab division, which was not in operation the first quarter of 1992. Research and development expenses increased from $21,235 in the first quarter of 1992 to $246,161 in the first quarter of 1993. The company's MediFlex and Disposal Sciences subsidiaries account for 80 percent of the research and development expenditure. Mediflex is developing an electronically articulated endoscope which employs technology licensed from Stanford University. The first software controlled and electronically articulating segments are scheduled for completion in June. Disposal Sciences has completed the redesign of its sharps disposal system and expects to generate sales in the second quarter of 1993.
In a recent letter and follow up meeting with the company, the FDA stated that it is requiring all currently marketed germicides to be tested and labeled for use in disinfector machines, and that it will not clear any new disinfector machines (including the company's pending 510(k) on the DSD-91) until a germicide is labeled for machine use. The company has registered vigorous objections to the FDA's position and has brought this matter to the attention of its Congressional representatives. "We are frustrated by the FDA's position; however, we have conducted testing of the DSD-91 with several germicides and hope that one may soon be labeled for machine use," said Donald Sturtevant, president and CEO of MediVators, Inc.
MediVators designs, manufacturers and markets endoscopic disinfection equipment and supplies. MedFab, a division of MediVators, Inc., provides precision plastics machining and fabrication services to a variety of customers. Disposal Sciences is a wholly owned subsidiary that manufactures and markets a sharps disposal system. MediFlex is an 80 percent owned subsidiary that is developing applications of articulation technology licensed from Stanford University.
