MEDICAL GRAPHICS SAYS FOURTH QUARTER EARNINGS TO BE LOWER
THAN ANTICIPATED; YEAR BEST IN HISTORY
ST. PAUL, Minn., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Medical Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ: MGCC) said that its fourth quarter 1991 sales will be in line; however, earnings will be somewhat below expectations. Sales for the quarter are expected to be in excess of $4.0 million, an 18 percent increase over the comparable quarter in 1990, with earnings in the four to six cents per share range. Final sales and earnings will be released in mid-February after the completion of the company's annual audit. Earnings were below expectation because the company's new portable pulmonary function testing laboratory has not yet received domestic market clearance by the FDA, although the product has been completed and shipped internationally, where margins are somewhat lower.
In looking at its 1991 results overall, Medical Graphics said that it will report the best year in the company's history with a sales increase of nearly 19 percent and earnings up around 80 percent over 1990. Catherine A. Anderson, company Chairman, President and CEO stated, "We're disappointed in the delay in approval to market our new product in the United States, but expect to receive clearance shortly. However, we're very excited about 1991 overall results and our prospects for the future. During the year, we made strategic investments in marketing and research and development. And with the completion and delivery of three new products to the marketplace that impact our entire product line, Medical Graphics is strongly positioned for continued growth in sales and earnings in 1992."
Medical Graphics Corporation develops, manufactures, and markets non-invasive cardiorespiratory diagnostic and monitoring systems for the prevention, early detection and cost-effective treatment of heart and lung disease. With headquarters in St. Paul, Minn., and Dusseldorf, Germany, Medical Graphics does business in 29 countries around the world.
