                 MEDICAL GRAPHICS RECEIVES PATENT APPROVALS
                         ON TWO DISPOSABLE PRODUCTS
ST. PAUL, Minn., Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Medical Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ: MGCC) today announced that it received patent protection on components of its advanced cardiorespiratory diagnostic systems. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office recently notified the company that patents had been approved for the company's disposable pneumotach and its gas analyzing module.
The disposable pneumotach is a respiratory flow measurement device that can be used as a mouthpiece, eliminating the need for hoses or breathing valves when measuring a patient's inhaled and exhaled air volume. The pneumotach is unique because it is disposable, removing a source of cross- contamination in respiratory testing, and reducing cleaning time between tests. Other significant features are its high degree of accuracy; its light weight; and its absence of moving parts, making the pneumotach easy to breathe through even at high respiratory rates.
Medical Graphics Corporation is the first company in its industry to introduce a disposable pneumotach. The device is used in diagnostic laboratories to assess heart and lung function, in critical care units for nutritional assessment and ventilator management, and in fitness testing.
The gas analyzing module, which is used in conjunction with disposable drying cartridges, will be a component in all MedGraphics gas-exchange systems. The purpose of the new device is to remove water from gas samples without distorting the gas concentrations. The removal of the water vapor, which is naturally expired in gas-exchange testing, improves the analyzer's performance during long-term monitoring.
Medical Graphics Corporation develops, manufactures and markets non- invasive cardiorespiratory diagnostic and monitoring systems for the prevention, early detection and cost-effective treatment of heart and lung disease. With headquarters in St. Paul and Dusseldorf, Germany, Medical Graphics does business in 29 countries worldwide.
