MEDICAL GRAPHICS CORPORATION RELEASES NEW EXERSCRIPT PRODUCT FOR FAT LOSS AND CARDIOVASCULAR CONDITIONING

ST. PAUL, Minn., March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Medical Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ: MGCC), an innovator in the design and manufacture of non-invasive cardiorespiratory diagnostic systems, announced today it has developed a new software report program (patent pending) which writes individualized exercise prescriptions. The software, called MedGraphics ExerScript, is being released today at the American College of Cardiology meeting in Anaheim, Calif.
MedGraphics ExerScript Reports identify the heart rate and duration for which to exercise for optimal fat loss, cardiovascular conditioning, and athletic training. Until now, individualized exercise programs based upon objective data have not been available. Rather, guidelines based on population studies have been used to estimate exercise prescriptions not applicable to the individual and which frequently were at an intensity level too high to be effective.
The software uses measurements from the MedGraphics CardiO2 System, which combines the standard 12-lead ECG exercise stress test with VO2 (oxygen uptake) and metabolic measurements taken from the expired breath to assess the functioning of the heart, lungs, and blood vessels.
With this precise information, MedGraphics ExerScript software generates an exact exercise prescription report. People who can benefit from exercise prescriptions include those interested in fat loss and cardiovascular conditioning, those rehabilitating from heart attacks, those with early symptoms of heart or lung disease, and athletes in training.
"There's a widespread "no pain, no gain" myth pertaining to fat loss, so most people exercise at the wrong heart rate and aren't as successful as they'd like to be. With an individualized exercise prescription, however, people can exercise more efficiently without pain to obtain their fat loss goals," said Terry Kapsen, vice president of marketing for cardiology and primary care.
The new software was developed to continue the Company's mission to prevent heart and lung disease. "A precise, tailored exercise program in conjunction with other lifestyle changes can help people prevent avoidable diseases and escape costly and extensive medical treatments later on," said Catherine A. Anderson, chairman, president and chief executive officer.
Medical Graphics Corporation designs, manufactures and markets non- invasive diagnostic systems for the prevention, early detection and cost-effective treatment of heart and lung disease. From its Company headquarters in St. Paul, Minn. and Dusseldorf, Germany, Medical Graphics does business in 30 countries.
