MEDICAL CAT FUND DIRECTOR NAMED

 HARRISBURG, Pa., April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Thomas P. Callahan, a veteran insurance executive, today was named executive director of the Medical Professional Liability Catastrophe Loss Fund.
 The appointment is effective on Monday, April 26.
 The fund is a state agency established in 1975 to provide supplemental medical malpractice insurance coverage for health care providers. Its main office is located in Rosemont, Delaware County.
 Callahan, of Philadelphia, is a chartered property casualty underwriter with a master's degree in risk management and insurance (1978) from Temple University. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Temple in 1975.
 Callahan was a commercial fire underwriter for the General Accident Group for nearly four years. For seven years, he was manager of insurance for Sterns Catalytic Corp.
 From January 1986 until its recent merger with Mellon Bank, Callahan was vice president for corporate risk management at Meritor Savings Bank.
 He has served as a consultant to the Insurance Institute of America and as an adjunct instructor and lecturer at LaSalle University Graduate School of Business and Temple University.
