MEDIALINK APPOINTS FRANCOISE HUSSON AS VICE PRESIDENT
OF EUROPEAN SERVICES; EUROPEAN NEWSWIRE ANNOUNCED
LONDON, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Medialink, the international distributor of video news releases to television newsrooms, has appointed former CNN executive Francoise Husson as vice president of European services.
The company also announced that it has established the Medialink European Newswire, a new high-speed data communications network that connects the newsrooms of Europe's public and commercial broadcasters with television new agencies.
In her new position, Husson will develop Medialink's European services including the European Newswire, video news release (VNR) distribution and the coordination of satellite-delivered press conferences and videoconferences.
Husson began her career in London as a producer for UPITN (now Worldwide Television News) and then joined NBC News. In 1980, she became the first European bureau chief for CNN, where she vastly expanded the cable network's news gathering operations and helped established CNN throughout the United Kingdom and across Europe.
For the past several years, Husson has been a consultant to leading communications organizations including Time-Warner and CNN International and also worked for British Telecom providing satellite services.
"Francoise's wealth of knowledge will greatly enhance our services so we can best meet the communications objectives of the public relations community and news broadcasters," said Laurence Moskowitz, president of the New York-based Medialink. "Francoise's understanding of the requirements of news broadcasters coupled with her technical expertise will allow Medialink to continue to provide innovative, creative services."
Medialink's European Newswire is an exclusive high-speed messaging network that allows news agencies to instantly alert major broadcasters to impending satellite transmissions. The Newswire also provides Medialink with the most effective means of notifying television newsrooms to VNRs and other video the company distributes for its company and public relations clients.
The Newswire is delivered to newsrooms either via a teleprinter or directly into news computer systems. Once fully deployed, the network will span from Dublin to Vienna and from Stockholm to Athens. The Newswire is controlled from Medialink's European headquarters in London, while equipment at newsrooms is maintained by Agence France Presse, via its subsidiary, Polycom.
There is no charge to newsrooms for the service, as the news agencies and other senders pay for the communications cost. The Newswire is faster and more cost-effective than telex or fax.
"We created the video notification newswire concept in the United States where its success is proven daily by the 700 broadcasters who depend upon it," Moskowitz said. "Now European broadcasters will have the same instant access to help then manage their new gathering."
Husson will work with Jim Gold who opened Medialink's London office as associate vice president, European sales and operations. Gold previously was head of the company's day-to-day operations in the United States.
Medialink also maintains full-service offices in Los Angeles, Chicago and Washington, D.C.
