MEDIA IS 'EXPOSING THIS EVIL'.

THE media was last night praised for uncovering the abuse and giving Savile's victims a "voice".

Commander Peter Spindler said: "The media has played a really important part in exposing Savile and lancing this boil and giving his victims a voice. It's a good example of the benefit the media can bring."

The NSPCC's Peter Watt said the number of sex abuse reports the charity had received had risen by 60% to 439 in the past three weeks. Appealing for anyone who suspects an abuser to call them, he said: "We hope this represents a turning point in public confidence about taking action against child abuse."
