 MEAD ACCEPTS RESIGNATION OF MEAD DATA CENTRAL PRESIDENT
 DAYTON, Ohio, Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The Mead Corporation (NYSE: MEA) announced today it has accepted the resignation of Jack W. Simpson, president, Mead Data Central, Inc. (MDC), a wholly owned electronic publishing subsidiary of the Mead Corporation. The resignation is effective immediately.
 In accepting the resignation, Mead Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Steven C. Mason said, "Jack has done an excellent job during his tenure at Mead Data Central. He has guided that business successfully for 10 years, pushing revenues from $47 million in 1981 to $470 million in 1991. He helped Mead Data Central reach a number of important earnings milestones as well."
 In making the announcement, Mason said, "Even with all the growth and success we have experienced at MDC, we believe we must do better. We are committed to achieving our full potential at MDC and maximizing our performance over the long term, particularly in product development, marketing, and in understanding and meeting the needs of our customers."
 Mason indicated that Mead will immediately begin a national search for Simpson's successor.
 In the interim, Rodney L. Everhart, formerly vice president of financial resources and administration for Mead Data Central, will become acting president, until a permanent replacement is found. Everhart currently is controller of the Mead Corporation.
