MDSI Selected By Cablevision Systems Corporation for Advantex-Telecommunications Solution.

Enterprisewide wireless communications solution from MDSI will mobile-

enable the field workforce and help strengthen customer service standards

RICHMOND, B.C., Oct. 7 /CNW-PRN/ - MDSI Mobile Data Solutions Inc. (MDSI) of Richmond, British Columbia (Nasdaq: MDSIF; TSE, ME: MMD) announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Cablevision Systems Corporation (Cablevision) of Woodbury, NY (ASE: CVC), one of the leading telecommunications and entertainment companies in the U.S., for the pilot of an enterprisewide Advantex(TM)-Telecommunications solution.

Advantex-Telecommunications is a mobile workforce management and wireless connectivity solution that spurs process improvements, productivity gains, and higher standards of customer care for organizations with remote workforces. With advanced appointment scheduling, call takers are able to quickly respond to service requests and offer customers convenient, specific appointment times. Because the system allows the organization to match the type of service to the required skill set, customers receive service from a technician with the expertise to complete the order on the initial visit. Automatic workload distribution enables dispatchers to serve larger workforces over greater service territories, and allows them to focus on exception or emergency conditions. In addition, with map-based dispatching capabilities, dispatchers have a geographic representation of all activity at their fingertips. During the day, they can monitor ``at-a-glance'' the progress of technicians and reprioritize orders automatically when required.

In the field, real-time wireless communications increase productivity by allowing field technicians to literally take their offices on the road. Instead of stopping at the office, field technicians can start the day from home by simply signing on to in-vehicle mobile computers for their lists of orders. During the day, valuable time is not consumed by deciphering voice instructions, traveling to incorrect addresses, or waiting on the phone or radio for someone in the office to check order information. Field technicians have real-time access to customer profiles and order information, in addition to the latest marketing and promotional information on enhanced service offerings.

MDSI(TM) was selected by Cablevision after an extensive evaluation of vendor offerings. The system will initially be rolled out to field technicians serving customers in the Woodbury area before the end of the year. All types of activity in the field will be supported, including installation of service, additions and changes to service, repairs, special requests, and signal leakage and channel level management. The mobile workforce will use a combination of rugged, in-vehicle mobile computers by Telxon and Intermec Technologies Corporation, Norand Mobile Systems Division.

In addition, Advantex-Telecommunications will be initially integrated with Cablevision's primary billing system (CableData) using an MDSI-developed interface through CableData's Mobile Vantage Gateway. MDSI's Advantex-Telecommunications' ability to integrate with CableData allows cable operators to preserve their investments in key information technology.
