Figures from the Mobile Data Association (MDA) have revealed that 12.3m people in the UK accessed the Internet via their mobile phone in June 2006.

According to the MDA's figures almost 20% of UK mobile phone users are now using their phone's WAP capability on a regular basis, to browse the Internet and/or download ringtones, wallpapers and games.

The MDA also confirmed that it intends to release mobile Internet user figures on a monthly basis, in order to provide a clearer indication of how many people access the service every month. Previously the organisation issued figures relating to the number of WAP pages viewed.
