 MCKAY NAMED SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT,
 CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER OF HARNISCHFEGER INDUSTRIES
 BROOKFIELD, Wis., Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- John A. McKay has been named senior vice president and chief operating officer of Harnischfeger Industries, Inc. (NYSE: HPH), it was announced today.
 McKay has been the president of Beloit Corporation, the largest subsidiary of Harnischfeger Industries and a global leader in paper machine manufacturing, since 1986. As COO, McKay will oversee the operations of Harnischfeger Industries' four subsidiaries. He will retain his duties at Beloit until a successor is named.
 McKay will report to Jeffrey T. Grade, the former COO who became chief executive officer last February.
 McKay earned a bachelor's degree in business administration at Youngstown University and a master's degree at Kent State University. He also graduated from Stanford University's Executive Program. He began his career in 1956 at the B.F. Goodrich Company. McKay held various assignments before becoming president of the engineered systems division in 1976 and a senior vice president of Goodrich's engineered products group and a vice president of B.F. Goodrich in 1978. In 1980, he joined the McNeil Corporation as an executive vice president and a director.
 Harnischfeger Industries is a diversified holding company that operates four subsidiaries involved in papermaking machinery manufacturing (Beloit Corporation); surface mining and overhead material handling equipment manufacturing (Harnischfeger Corporation); and systems integration services (Harnischfeger Engineers, Inc. and Syscon Corporation).
