MCJC offers an evening of Jewish inspiration during Tikkun Leil Shavuot.
Byline: Submitted by McHenry County Jewish Congregation
Join in an evening of Jewish inspiration and Tikkun Leil Shavuot with "From Jesus to the Lubavitcher Rebbe: Jewish Perspectives on Messianic Redemption" at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at McHenry County Jewish Congregation, 8617 Ridgefield Road in Crystal Lake.
Within Judaism, the term "Messiah" has many connotations and contradictions.
In the Hebrew Bible, the term referred to an "anointed one," a divinely chosen figure who would bring to fruition God's plan for his people and for all humankind. In Talmudic and Medieval rabbinic literature, the term conjures up images of a future world filled with peace and divine tranquillity.
Join Rabbi Tom Samuels of the McHenry County Jewish Congregation in an exploration of how the idea of Messianic Redemption evolved, and continues to evolve, throughout Jewish thought and history.
MCJC holds Shabbat services at 6:30 p.m. Fridays and 9:30 a.m. Saturdays. Services are led by Rabbi Tom Samuels.
It is an independent community synagogue that serves Jews of all backgrounds. Interfaith families are welcome. They offer a gift shop with a range of Judaica items. It is located on Ridgefield Road in unincorporated Crystal Lake, accessible from Route 14.
For more information on the congregation or any of its events or educational programs, call (815) 455-1810 or go to the MCJC website at mcjconline.org.
