MCI WINS $15 MILLION CONTRACT; CERIDIAN FIRST TO ANNOUNCE IT WILL EXERCISE ITS 'FRESH LOOK' RIGHT

MINNEAPOLIS, April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- MCI (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC) announced today that the Ceridian Corporation, an information management and employer services company, has agreed to switch its long distance traffic from AT&T to MCI under a new three-year, $15 million agreement.
Under the terms of the agreement, MCI will become Ceridian's primary carrier of domestic and international voice traffic. At the time of 800 portability, Ceridian will switch more than one hundred 800 numbers to MCI. In addition to MCI 800 Service, MCI will also provide Ceridian with its Vnet, a virtual private network service, MCI Forum, an audio conferencing service, and MCI Digital Data Service. Ceridian is also expected to migrate some of its data traffic onto MCI's new broadband packet switched data service called Hyperstream Frame Relay.
With the agreement, Ceridian is the first company to announce that it will exercise its "Fresh Look" right. Fresh Look is the term given to a FCC order that allows AT&T customers under AT&T Tariff 12, Tariff 16 or SDN-NRA Express agreements to discontinue these agreements without financial penalty during the 90 days following the start of 800 portability on May 1. Ceridian is under the AT&T SDN-NRA Express tariff agreement. When 800 portability takes effect companies will be free to move their 800 number to the long distance carrier of their choice without changing the 800 number.
"Fresh Look provided Ceridian with a timely opportunity to rebid our company-wide telecommunications network and make a carrier change without incurring switching obstacles," said James Kryck, general manager of operations services for Ceridian. "We selected MCI based on its overall performance in meeting our specifications for reliability, flexibility, cost and technological capabilities."
"This agreement is not only historic, but it illustrates the benefits Fresh Look affords many of America's largest corporations as the May 1 date nears," said Jonathan Crane, president of MCI National Accounts. "There are hundreds of companies who can take advantage of the Fresh Look right associated with FCC's 800 portability ruling to explore competitive offerings for domestic and international voice and data services."
MCI, headquartered in Washington, D.C., offers a full range of domestic and global telecommunications services through one of the world's largest state-of-the-art networks. With 1992 revenue of $10.6 billion, the company is the second largest long distance company in the United States and has more than 60 overseas offices in 55 countries. MCI provides international calling from the U.S. to more than 260 countries.
