MCI RESPONSE TO AT&T SUIT

WASHINGTON, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to AT&T's damage suit before the U.S. District Court, MCI issued the following statement:
"AT&T obviously has been stung by a continuing string of losses to MCI among its largest customers and is desperate to find some way to stem the flow," said Gary M. Parsons, MCI's senior vice president for corporate and public policy. "But no amount of competitive disparagement or harassing lawsuits by AT&T can stop the force of the marketplace."
Surprisingly, AT&T is asking the district court to decide the issue of potential damages when the appeals court has recently asked the FCC to address that very issue. MCI's tariff filed with the FCC on Jan. 28 is consistent with the FCC's decision regarding tariffs of non-dominant carriers.
"AT&T's assertion regarding secret' deals denyi ?customers the benefits of competition is absurd," said Parsons. "The intense competition between MCI and AT&T for Fortune 500 accounts has brought major benefits to these customers. They obviously have full knowledge of the pricing, terms and conditions offered to them by AT&T and MCI, and they continue to choose MCI."
