MCI PROVIDES LOWEST RATES IN NEW YORK CITY CONSUMER AFFAIRS SURVEY
 WASHINGTON, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- MCI Communications Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC) provides the biggest savings to residential consumers through its long distance calling plans, according to the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs, "Guide to Long Distance Calling."
 The survey was announced yesterday at a press conference in New York City. The findings issued, stated: "A survey conducted by the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs of domestic long distance calls placed from New York City concluded that, of the five major carriers, MCI is (among) the cheapest." The guide found MCI "the cheapest," by a significant margin, for the heavy evening caller. And the survey "found MCI to be the cheapest overall."
 Timothy F. Price, senior vice president of sales and marketing for MCI Consumer Markets said, "We are pleased by the results of the New York Consumer survey and hope consumers will recognize the savings that can be realized by becoming an MCI customer."
 Price adds, "The survey results did not include our most popular savings program, Friends & Family from MCI, which when combined with any of our long distance calling plans offers the consumer an additional 20 percent savings to calls placed to other MCI customers on a Calling Circle. Not only do consumers receive a discount off the price of each and every call to a Circle member, they receive the biggest savings with the people they call most."
 Friends & Family, a service offered exclusively by MCI since March 1991, gives consumers a bonus savings of 20 percent on long distance calls to active members of their Circle of Callers which consists of one to 12 friends and family members who are currently MCI customers or who choose to become MCI customers. Friends & Family is available 24 hours a day, from anywhere in the United States.
 TRAC, a non-profit membership organization based in Washington, which promotes the interest of residential telecommunications users, issued a survey in July 1991 which named MCI's Friends & Family as the lowest cost residential calling option at all calling levels.
 In a separate survey published in May 1991, and sponsored by California-based Consumer Action, a consumer education and advocacy organization, MCI was named the least expensive long distance carrier among the top three, based on the long distance calls tested.
 MCI, the nation's second largest long distance provider, offers residential savings through a number of services and products including: Friends & Family from MCI; MCI PrimeTime; MCI Personal 800; MCI International Calling Plans such as Call Europe, Call India, Call Pacific, Call Canada and Call Mexico; MCI Messenger; the MCI Card and the Friends & Family Card.
