MCI OFFERS LONG DISTANCE HELP TO HURRICANE ANDREW VICTIMS
WASHINGTON, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Concerned about the difficulties victims are facing as a result of Hurricane Andrew, MCI Communications Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC) has set up a toll-free 800 number to answer questions regarding the accounts of MCI customers in the affected areas.
The number, 800-7-ASK-HELP, is available beginning today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday. The toll-free number connects callers from impacted areas to an MCI customer service representative who will counsel and provide payment advice to those families concerned about long distance bills from MCI.
MCI has dispatched mobile phone centers to the Homestead, Fla., and South Florida areas to provide free long distance phone calls for residents. Both phone centers will remain in the disaster areas until normal communications have been restored.
MCI is also providing free long distance telephone calls from pay phones it services in the area and has contributed $20,000 to the American Red Cross. MCI will continue to assist in relief efforts in affected areas.
MCI Communications Corporation, headquartered in Washington, is the nation's second largest long distance provider.
