MCI NAMES AKERSON AND LIEBHABER TO TOP POSITIONS WITH THE FIRM
WASHINGTON, April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- MCI Communications Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC) today announced the elevation of two key executives in shifts designed to more specifically address the strategic goals of the company. The changes were announced by Bert C. Roberts Jr., president and chief executive officer.
Daniel F. Akerson, 43, has been named chief operating officer and Richard T. Liebhaber, 56, has been named chief strategy and technology officer. Both have been serving as executive vice presidents and group executives.
"The new alignment of responsibility looks toward the challenges facing MCI during the next decade," Roberts said. "As the officer in charge of day-to-day operations of the company, Mr. Akerson will be responsible for MCI's immediate objective of profitable market share growth by providing premier service to MCI customers across all market segments. Mr. Liebhaber will focus on the second critical component of MCI's strategy -- retaining our current leadership in technology and products as well as expanding our role as a leader in worldwide communications and information service."
Akerson has been with MCI since 1983 and has held various management and executive positions with the company including president of MCI's former Southeast Division and chief financial officer.
Liebhaber joined MCI in 1985 after holding various executive positions with IBM Corporation.
