MCI MAIL PROVIDES ACCESS TO THE WHITE HOUSE

WASHINGTON, March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- MCI Mail users can now contact the President and White House staff directly through the MCI electronic mail system, it was announced today. They may also view speeches and other White House information, directly through MCI Mail.
Millions of Americans now use electronic mail systems, including MCI Mail, to send messages directly from their computers to other mail users' computers.
As part of the new administration's open access policy, MCI Mail users can address electronic mail messages to the MCI Mail box, "WHITE HOUSE." The messages will be put on computer disks and delivered to the White House. Responses will be sent from the White House via the U.S. Postal Service directly to U.S., FPO and APO addresses when provided. In the future, depending on the success of the project, messages may be returned electronically.
"Millions of Americans have found that electronic mail is an easier, quicker and more effective way to communicate and MCI is glad to have the opportunity to help the Government and the people communicate in this manner," said Seth Blumenfeld, President of MCI International. "Bringing the town meeting to a nationwide scale using the nation's electronic messaging resources will offer the American people a way to participate in Government in a way not previously possible."
In addition to providing the new access for MCI Mail users, daily information on the administration's programs will be provided by the White House through the MCI Mail "Bulletin Board" entitled "WHITE HOUSE." MCI Mail subscribers may access the board starting today to read and download the information such as the Presidential speeches, Presidential schedule, press releases, statements on various issues including: economic, foreign and social issues, and other information.
To send a message to the White House, MCI Mail users can simply address the message to the WHITE HOUSE. Since the White House will reply by regular postal service, full mailing addresses should be included in the messages. To access the bulletin boards interactively, type VIEW WHITE HOUSE. After accessing the bulletin board, type the number of the listed area in which you are interested, then type SCAN to see the available documents.
