MCI INTRODUCES ADVANCED PRIVATE LINE BUSINESS SERVICES
FROM THE UNITED STATES TO COLOMBIA, GUATEMALA AND PERU
WASHINGTON, July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- MCI Communications Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC) today announced international private line services for businesses that need to communicate from the United States to Peru, Colombia and Guatemala.
MCI Skyline services, including private line voice, high-speed data, facsimile and videoconferencing, are being offered via new digital satellite teleports in the three Latin American countries.
"The availability of high-speed private line services and the new state-of-the-art teleports means enhanced communications capabilities for our customers," said Seth D. Blumenfeld, president of MCI International.
Together with Entel Peru, the Peruvian telecommunications administration, MCI will help build that nation's first and only digital teleport facility. The teleport, scheduled to open in Lima in late July, will support private line communications and be interconnected with a city-wide fiber optic network.
MCI also launched MCI Skyline service between the United States and Guatemala, inaugurating the first international business satellite connections between the two countries. MCI and Guatemalteca di Telecomunicaciones (GUATEL) are jointly offering the service via a new teleport constructed in Guatemala City by GUATEL.
In Colombia, digital teleport facilities in Bogota recently constructed by Telecom Colombia are permitting MCI to expand the commercial availability of MCI Skyline services to a broader range of businesses.
MCI also provides international private line service to Peru and Colombia via customer premises earth stations. MCI was the first to introduce this service in Colombia and Peru and remains the only international carrier offering the service between the United States and these two countries.
MCI Skyline international private line connections are being offered at transmission speeds ranging from 56/64 Kbps to 2.048 Mbps.
"Customers now have a choice of competitively-priced MCI Skyline connections for their integrated voice and data applications," said MCI's Blumenfeld. "In addition to the new shared teleport facilities in place, U.S. businesses also will have an option to have a dedicated on-premise earth station facility."
MCI is the nation's second largest long distance company with 1991 revenue of $9.5 billion. MCI is also the leading provider of international private line services to Latin America and the world. MCI's digital network in Latin America includes service to Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela.
