MCI GUARANTEES NETWORK RELIABILITY WITH MCI 800 GUARDIAN PLAN

MCI GUARANTEES NETWORK RELIABILITY WITH MCI 800 GUARDIAN PLAN
WASHINGTON, Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- MCI Communications Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC) today announced the long distance industry's first 800 service no-fault restoral guarantee. Under the plan, MCI guarantees it will restore or provide backup 800 service without charge in 30 minutes or less.
"Network reliability is critical to the thousands of American firms who rely on their 800 service as an essential business tool," said C. Thomas Faulders, MCI senior vice president for business marketing.
"Other programs similar in nature offer limited guarantees or fee reimbursement depending upon who or what is at fault. We understand the importance of 800 to our customers' business and that's why we're backing our service up with a guarantee program that protects our customers in any situation," said Faulders.
MCI 800 Guardian is an automatic feature offered now to all domestic MCI 800 Service customers, including those using Business Line access. Customers are guaranteed restoration of their service under the plan 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in any service disruption situation such as problems with their local telephone service; access line failures; or faulty telephone equipment on their premises. The guarantee does not apply during major network busy conditions beyond MCI's control, such as a natural disaster.
In the event of a service disruption, customers may choose from a number of backup routing options to fit their needs and situations. MCI will reroute a customer's 800 calls to terminate at another working 800 answering location, or to a standard recorded message which will advise callers that service will be restored shortly. Other options include rerouting 800 calls based on their existing alternate routing plan or rerouting to an existing business line previously not used for 800 service. MCI will waive all charges associated with the rerouted service, except usage charges, regardless of who or what was at fault.
In the unlikely event that MCI cannot restore or provide backup service during the 30 minute time period, customers will receive a credit equal to one month's service charge on their next bill.
MCI 800 Guardian is automatically provided at no charge to new or existing domestic MCI 800 service customers. The plan does not currently apply to 800 service included under MCI Preferred, Personal 800, or MCI 800 International customers.
For more information, customers should contact MCI customer service at 800-759-4341 or their MCI sales representative.
