MCI CELEBRATES 10 MILLION FRIENDS & FAMILY MEMBERS: NEW CUSTOMERS GET ONE MONTH FREE SERVICE

 New Advertising Campaign Showcases MCI Employees
 WASHINGTON, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- In less than two years since


its introduction, MCI Communications Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC) announced today that its Friends & Family program has attracted 10 million customers and saved Americans millions of dollars in long distance spending.
 In creating a new "10 Million" campaign, MCI employees will be featured in several national advertisements and will announce the first Friends & Family news of the new year -- one month free long distance service to new customers, plus additional benefits.
 On Dec. 28, the new advertising campaign began airing on network and cable television. Starting today, MCI's news includes extra benefits for MCI Friends & Family customers such as:
 -- ONE MONTH FREE -- Customers who join Friends & Family will receive one month of free long distance service, or up to a $35 value, the average monthly spending of a long distance customer.
 -- SPECIAL HOLIDAY SAVINGS -- MCI will offer special evening rates, with savings of up to 50 percent for Friends & Family customers, during a variety of holidays throughout '93.
 -- INTERNATIONAL SAVINGS -- Friends & Family customers may now receive an extra 20 percent savings on calls to any two international telephone numbers overseas. MCI offers customers the lowest priced international call to any two numbers in more than 200 countries and places.

"And now we're offering a strong incentive -- one month free long distance service -- to encourage new customers to see how terrific MCI's Friends & Family really is." Taylor adds, "In 1993, we're committed to introducing more savings and benefits to the Friends & Family program."
 The campaign, developed by MCI's advertising agency, Messner Vetere Berger MacNamee Schmetterer/New York, showcases MCI employees promoting a special offer to prospective customers who enroll in Friends & Family between now and March 31, 1993.
 MCI, the nation's second largest long distance provider, offers residential savings and superior customer service through a number of service and product offerings including: MCI Dial "1"; Friends & Family; MCI PrimeTime; MCI Personal 800; MCI Around the World; the MCI Card, and the Friends & Family Card.
