MCI BUSINESS SERVICES KICKS OFF 800 INDEPENDENCE WITH INTRODUCTION OF VISION 800 ANSWERNET(SM) SERVICE

ATLANTA, April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Anticipating 800 Independence Day this Saturday with the advent of Portability, MCI (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC) today introduced a new 800 service enhancement that boosts revenue opportunities of America's small- and medium-size businesses by ensuring all 800 calls can be answered regardless of the situation.
MCI has been offering these capabilities to large accounts on a customized basis using one of MCI's enhanced voice services platform since June 1992. Now, MCI brings this enhancement to small- and medium- size businesses with Vision 800 AnswerNet(a).
Businesses using MCI Vision 800 AnswerNet also receive the industry's ONLY ONE-MINUTE GUARANTEE(a) -- MCI 800 Guardian. Should an 800 service disruption occur, MCI guarantees to reroute the service within one minute of notification, or credit one month's Vision 800 service fee.
Total flexibility and customization is the core of MCI Vision 800 AnswerNet. AnswerNet delivers calls when a customer is overloaded with calling volume during peak use times or for after hours coverage -- when a customer's business is closed for the day, weekend or holidays, their 800 number can still work for them. And for unexpected circumstances, such as a power failure, local phone company failure, equipment failure or any weather-related emergencies, customers' 800 calls can be routed in one minute to an AnswerNet option.
Vision 800 customers can choose to have AnswerNet deliver calls in one of three ways:
-- AnswerNet Message(sm) -- Callers hear a customized message encouraging them to call back at a specified time, or any other message the customer chooses.
-- AnswerNet Mailbox(sm) -- Using voice mail technology, callers hear a custom message that directs them to leave specific information that can be remotely retrieved anytime by an authorized user.
-- AnswerNet Live(sm) -- Callers are routed directly to specially trained MCI customer service representatives who can collect information specified by each individual customer.
"AnswerNet is not only a business's 800 safety net, it's a whole new way of doing business," said Scott Ross, vice president -- product marketing for MCI Business Services.
"Without AnswerNet, crucial customer calls and potential revenue dollars can slip by. With AnswerNet's call delivery capabilities, every business call opportunity can always be answered."
AnswerNet is available to all MCI Vision(R) customers regardless of termination type. MCI Vision provides small- and medium-size business customers an umbrella of outbound and 800 service calling options that boost business productivity and offer the convenience and cost advantages of across-the-board volume discounts for a single, consolidated invoice.
In addition to serving businesses using dedicated 800 access, AnswerNet is also available to customers using switched access -- an industry exclusive.
"For customers who neither want, nor can justify the expense of dedicated access, AnswerNet offers a unique, comprehensive call completion solution," said Ross.
AnswerNet joins the growing family of enhanced MCI 800 services that enable businesses to take advantage of the benefits of full competition in 800 Service.
On 800 Independence Day, May 1, customers will gain complete control over their 800 numbers. Businesses can select from competing long distance companies and have the opportunity to retain their existing 800 numbers.
MCI, headquartered in Washington, offers a full-range of domestic and global telecommunications services. With 1992 revenues of more than $10 billion, the company is the second-largest long distance provider in the U.S. and has more than 60 international offices.
