MCI BUSINESS SERVICES ANNOUNCES WORRY-FREE MANAGEMENT SERVICE FOR 800 CUSTOMERS

ATLANTA, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- American businesses using 800 service and anticipating 800 Independence Day on May 1, today gained a new competitive advantage -- peace of mind.
With its introduction of MCI 800 BusinessManager(sm), MCI will ensure a smooth transition when customers choose to move their 800 service to MCI with the May 1 advent of 800-number Portability. MCI will also assist customers in achieving maximum 800 Service productivity when Portability takes effect.
When the 800 Portability starting gun fires May 1, businesses for the first time will have full control over their 800 numbers. Businesses will select from competing long distance companies and have the opportunity to retain their existing 800 numbers.
MCI 800 BusinessManager coverage is offered free to customers who assign 100 percent of their calling traffic on an 800 number to MCI.
"We know our customers want to concentrate on their businesses, not ours," said Scott Ross, vice president - Product Marketing for MCI Business Services.
"BusinessManager makes 800 service worry-free. And just as important, it provides unsurpassed customer service with regular checkups to assure that our customers' 800 service is delivering maximum value."
With 800 Portability, the Federal Communications Commission requires businesses to choose a "Responsible Organization" to manage each of their 800 numbers. With MCI 800 BusinessManager, MCI acts not only as a "Responsible Organization," but provides a customer-focused, turnkey 800 service management solution.
Specifically, MCI 800 BusinessManager will deliver to businesses all day-to-day network administrative requirements of MCI 800 services including trouble-shooting service problems and activating service in the national 800 Database.
In addition, to ensure customers that their 800 service is operating efficiently, MCI will conduct regular reviews to recommend the best network routing and to ensure the most efficient service configuration is installed.
A 24-hour, MCI 800 Services support center will also be available to customers who need immediate service help.
MCI 800 customers can also choose from several optional 800 BusinessManager services including MCI Perspective(R), an MCI-exclusive, personal computer-based analysis and graphics software package. Perspective offers electronic delivery of monthly MCI invoices and call detail to a customer's personal computer, enabling customers to analyze more than 30 standard and customized reports.
MCI 800 BusinessManager joins MCI 800 MultiManager(sm) in MCI's family of value-added 800 services. Announced last November, MultiManager enables businesses to use MCI as a single point of contact to split their 800 traffic between MCI and other long-distance carriers.
MultiManager was recently named the winner of ComNet '93's New Product Achievement Award.
"MCI 800 BusinessManager and 800 MultiManager are examples of the value and customer service advantages that are now offered to American business as a result of the competition brought about by 800 Portability," said Ross.
"When 800 numbers are officially freed on 800 Independence Day, May 1, businesses will gain the kind of value in incoming calling that they gained in outgoing calling with the break-up of the Bell System."
MCI, headquartered in Washington, offers a full-range of domestic and global telecommunications services. With 1992 revenues of more than $10 billion, the company is the second-largest long-distance provider in the U.S. and has more than 60 international offices.
