MCI ANNOUNCES FIVE-MINUTE 800 GUARDIAN -- NO FAULT GUARANTEE IS INDUSTRY FIRST --

ATLANTA, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- MCI (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC) today announced a "no fault," five-minute, 800 Guardian guarantee that leads the industry in hassle-free customer service.
MCI 800 Guardian now guarantees alternate service within five minutes if a customer's 800 service is disrupted, regardless of the source of the service disruption.
"AT&T's guarantee will provide a monthly service fee credit only if a service disruption is due to an AT&T problem, rather than a local service or other problem," said Scott Ross, MCI vice president - marketing.
According to the AT&T tariff, AT&T's guarantee does not cover interruptions due to the failure of power, equipment or systems not provided by AT&T.
"MCI's 800 Service guarantee is hassle-free," said Ross. "We know our customers don't want to hear 'that's not our problem.'
"So we guarantee we'll reroute their 800 service within five minutes, regardless of whose problem it may be."
Specifically, MCI 800 Guardian guarantees that MCI will provide back-up service in five minutes or less, or will credit customers for one month's service fee. The five-minute offer, pending tariff effectiveness by the Federal Communications Commission, also applies to international 800 calling.
When customers call MCI, their 800 service will be immediately directed to a predefined customer-specified location via their alternate routing plan.
For MCI 800 customers without an alternate answering location, MCI will reroute the 800 call to a standard network announcement.
This enhanced MCI 800 Guardian five-minute guarantee improves response time from MCI's original, 15-minute time guarantee. MCI 800 Guardian became the industry's first free 800 15-minute backup guarantee upon its introduction in June 1992.
"At MCI, we believe telephone problems are our problems, not our customers," said Ross. "MCI's new, five-minute 800 Guardian policy ensures service integrity regardless of fault, so that customers have one less thing to worry about."
MCI, headquartered in Washington, offers a full range of domestic and global telecommunications services through one of the world's largest state-of-the-art networks. With 1992 revenue of more than $10 billion, the company is the second-largest long distance provider in the U.S. and has more than 60 offices worldwide.
