MCI ANNOUNCES EXECUTIVE CHANGES IN REALIGNMENT
 OF BUSINESS MARKET UNITS
WASHINGTON, July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- MCI Communications Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC) today announced executive reassignments associated with a realignment of its four regional sales divisions into two new national business units.
Daniel F. Akerson, MCI's president and chief operating officer, named two key executives to head the new business units:
Jonathan C. Crane, 42, has been named president of MCI National Accounts, serving the needs of national and multi-national customers, and headquartered in Rye Brook, N.Y.
Crane, previously president of the Eastern Division, was key in developing MCI's national accounts focus in the mid-1980's and has been involved in a number of MCI's major national account wins.
Timothy F. Price, 39, has been named president of MCI Business Services, addressing medium-sized business customers and alternate sales channels, and headquartered in Atlanta. Price, a 10-year veteran of MCI, was formerly senior vice president of sales and marketing for MCI Consumer and Commercial Markets, and directed the development and launch of Friends & Family from MCI, one of the company's most successful products.
Crane and Price will report to Kevin Sharer, president, Business Markets, who will continue to be responsible for overall domestic business and government markets.
"Today's announcement completes the shift from geography-based marketing to customer segment-based marketing for the company," Akerson commented. "By streamlining MCI's business efforts into two national units, the company is better positioned to implement targeted marketing strategies aligned with the customers they serve, and respond quickly to their needs."
The announcement follows a similar realignment of MCI's residential operations in 1990 with the creation of its Consumer Markets unit. The company's small business activities were also recently aligned on a national basis.
Other executive appointments associated with this announcement include:
Gary M. Parsons, 42, has been named senior vice president, corporate and public policy, and will coordinate MCI's various regulatory, legislative and public relations activities. Parsons, previously president of the Southern Division, has handled a number of engineering and technology assignments within the company. Parsons will report to Dan Akerson, president and chief operating officer.
Greg LeVert, 45, has been named president, alternate sales channels, and will be responsible for MCI's sales to other carriers, resellers and agents. LeVert, previously president of the Central Division, will lead these activities from Chicago.
Barry Wagar, 50, has been named senior vice president, national account marketing, and will have responsibility for the staff and marketing functions associated with the new national account segment. Wagar, previously president of the Western Division, will lead these activities from Tysons Corner, Va.
MCI, with 1991 revenue of approximately $9.5 billion, is the nation's second largest long distance carrier. MCI's residential and business customers receive an array of voice and data services made possible through a digital telecommunications network that spans the globe.
