MCI AND HONGKONGBANK ANNOUNCE INTERNATIONAL CALLING CARD SERVICE
WASHINGTON, April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- MCI Communications Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC) today announced an agreement with HongkongBank, one of the largest banking organizations in the world, to provide a new international telephone calling card, WorldPhone, exclusively to HongkongBank Gold and Corporate Card customers in Hong Kong.
Beginning in April, HongkongBank Gold and Corporate Card customers may use their WorldPhone card when calling internationally. Gold and Corporate Card customers traveling within the United States can call virtually anywhere in the world from any pay phone, airport or hotel room. The WorldPhone international calling card may be used to call the United States from Hong Kong as well as from 12 major travel destinations including: Canada, United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Australia, The Netherlands, Belgium, Brazil, and Greece, with more service locations to be announced throughout the year.
"HongkongBank has selected one of the world's largest communications carriers to provide our customers with this valuable new service," said Richard Cromwell, manager of HongkongBank's Card Centre. "HongkongBank WorldPhone not only makes telephone calling easier for cardholders on the move, but also significantly reduces outlay on international telephone charges."
"MCI is proud to participate in this alliance with

HongkongBank, forming a strong marketing relationship between two global players, both of which are leaders in their respective fields," said Bert C. Roberts Jr., president and chief executive officer of MCI Communications Corporation. "MCI WorldPhone service is provided via the MCI global telecommunications network so customers receive high-quality service at competitive prices."
As an introductory offer, HonkongBank customers who use their card before May 15, 1992, will receive a credit of up to $20 ($HKD150) on their first call.
Calls placed with the WorldPhone card are conveniently recorded and billed in Hong Kong currency on Gold and Corporate Card customers' monthly credit card statements. This is the only bill customers receive and it provides precise details on every call placed for easy record-keeping. WorldPhone customers can make overseas connections, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. MCI also provides operator assistance in both Cantonese and English at no extra charge to the customer, as well as dialing instructions that are computer voice-prompted in both languages.
"MCI is proud to offer WorldPhone, an easy-to-use calling card service designed to help world travelers save on international calls. As the WorldPhone service expands, it will provide a passport to worldwide calling convenience virtually anywhere you find a phone," added Roberts.
HongkongBank is the principal member of the HSBC Group, which with some 1,400 offices worldwide, including over 600 in Asia, and more than $160 billion in assets, is one of the largest banking organizations in the world.
MCI, one of the world's largest communications carriers, offers a full range of domestic and international telecommunications services.
