MCI AND A&E TAKE TRIP AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS; MICHAEL PALIN TRAVELS THE GLOBE IN ACCLAIMED PROGRAM

 ARLINGTON, Va., March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- MCI announced today its co-sponsorship with Arts & Entertainment Network (A&E) of "The Around the World with MCI" sweepstakes. A&E will telecast a 7-week program, "Around the World in 80 Days," starring Michael Palin, which began airing Feb. 24 and will run through April 7.
 Beginning March 3, during the mini-series, viewers are invited to call an 800 number and enter the sweepstakes. The grand prize is a 10 day/9 night, all expense paid trip for four to New York, Paris or London and Tokyo. When viewers call in they are given the opportunity to join MCI and get 2 free months (first and third) of up to $55 of free long distance. Existing MCI customers and non-customers may also enter the sweepstakes with no obligation to MCI.
 Among the various MCI products and services which will be offered, MCI Around the World offers callers special savings on calls to more than 250 international destinations for a low monthly subscription fee of only $3. MCI Around the World, a low fixed-rate plan, provides rates to 53 countries and places during generous plan hours. The plan also offers a 15 percent savings off MCI's regularly low international rates to the remaining locations.
 A&E's rich variety of quality entertainment is available to 60 million households in the United States and Canada via more than 8,400 cable systems. The network's 24-hours-a-day schedule is a lively mix of the best in comedy, drama, documentaries and the performing arts. Since A&E began in 1984, it has received more CableACE Awards than any other basic cable network. The network has also received three nominations for the Golden CableACE, cable's highest honor.
