MCGRAW-HILL ELECTS RICHARD H. JENRETTE TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 NEW YORK, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Richard H. Jenrette, chairman and chief executive officer of The Equitable Companies, Inc., was elected today to the board of directors of McGraw-Hill, Inc. (NYSE: MHP). Mr. Jenrette is also the chairman of The Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States and chairman of its wholly-owned investment banking subsidiary, Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, Inc.
 Mr. Jenrette joined The Equitable in 1985 as vice chairman of The Equitable Life Assurance Society, when Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, Inc., which he co-founded in 1960, was acquired by The Equitable. He was elected chairman of The Equitable Life Assurance Society in 1987, and president and chief executive officer in May, 1990. He relinquished the position of president in 1990, and chief executive officer in 1992 while remaining chairman and chief executive officer of The Equitable Companies, the new parent holding company following Equitable's demutualization during the past year.
 Born in Raleigh, N.C., Mr. Jenrette holds an A.B. in journalism from the University of North Carolina and an M.B.A. from Harvard University's Graduate School of Business Administration.
 Mr. Jenrette is a member of the board of directors of The Equitable Life Assurance Society and Groupe AXA, SA. He is a member of The Business Roundtable, a trustee of The Rockefeller Foundation, of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and of the New York Historical Society; and a director of the American Council of Life Insurance, of the Hollings Oncology Center, Medical University of South Carolina, and of the Associates of the Harvard Business School. He is a former chairman of the Securities Industry Association.
