 MCGRATH NAMED SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT-OPERATIONS & ENGINEERING
 FOR SMITH CORONA
 NEW CANAAN, Conn., Jan. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- John R. McGrath has been appointed senior vice president-operations and engineering for Smith Corona Corporation (NYSE: SCO).
 McGrath's responsibilities include world-wide manufacturing, engineering, research and product development activities for Smith Corona.
 McGrath joined Smith Corona in 1957 and held a number of manufacturing positions in locations as diverse as Cortland, N.Y., and Singapore. In 1977, he became manager of Canadian Operations, in Scarborough, Ontario. He returned to Singapore in 1979 as manager- operations, and was appointed managing director-Singapore in 1980. In 1986, McGrath returned to the United States as vice president-operations and engineering.
 McGrath attended Cortland State University. He and his wife Janet reside in Cortland, N.Y.
 Smith Corona, based in New Canaan, is the world's largest manufacturer of portable electronic typewriters and personal word processors. The company also markets personal computers, office supplies, forms and customized printed products.
