MCG ARCHITECTS RECEIVES COVETED 'GOLD NUGGET' AWARD
 PASADENA, Calif., June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Pasadena-based

McClellan/Cruz/Gaylord & Associates Inc. (MCG), has won a 1992 Gold Nugget Grand Award for their design of the newly restored and renovated Ritz-Carlton, Huntington Hotel. The award competition, which honors California's best projects and new design trends, recently presented the honors at The Pacific Coast Builder's Conference in San Francisco.
Thirty-six awards were announced by the 1992 Gold Nugget Award judging committee which included two separate panels of builders, architects, planners and design experts who spent four days evaluating 488 entries. MCG won the Grand Award for the Best Rehabilitated Commercial or Industrial Project in the Commercial/Industrial category.
Other firms receiving recognition for this award include Wimberly, Allison, Tong and Goo Architects and Planners, who worked jointly with MCG in the project design; the developer, Huntington Hotel Partners; and the builder, Swinerton and Walberg Co.
The Ritz-Carlton, Huntington Hotel, located in Pasadena, was originally built in 1907 as a winter pleasure resort. The hotel main building was condemned and closed for more than five years ago due to major structural and seismic problems. MCG's primary goal was to recreate a luxury hotel incorporating the modern amenities, services and facilities found in today's five-star hotels and to restore and retain the historically significant characteristics of this vintage landmark. On March 18, 1991, this 383-room luxury hotel reopened for business on 23 acres.
The 1992 Gold Nugget Awards Winner's Book announcing the awards included judges comments on this project that stated: "This hotel has historic significance and everything that was done to this building in rehabilitating it maintained that sense of place and character. There were so many quite simple solutions to complex problems that were thoughtfully done, tastefully done, not expensively done. It brought all of the pieces together and made it an example to emulate."
Founded in 1927 by Robert Ainsworth, MCG currently has a staff of more than 50 professionals, operating out of three offices located in Pasadena, San Francisco and Irvine. Specializing in commercial architecture, MCG is a full-service firm best known for their work in the shopping center industry.
