 NETWORKS TO INSTALL PHOTONIC SWITCH AT KENNEDY SPACE CENTER
 BOULDER, Colo., June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Astarte Fiber Networks Inc. today announced that it has been awarded a contract to install its Star-Switch(TM) Model 1600 photonic optical matrix switch at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC). McDonnell Douglas Space Systems purchased the switch to assess the potential of using Astarte's photonic switching technology for Space Station Payload Processing areas and other network applications at KSC.
 Ken Garrett, vice president of sales and marketing at Astarte Fiber Networks, stated, "We are extremely excited to install Star- Switch at the Space Center.  The Star-Switch line of fiber optic switches is the first -- and only -- completely photonic fiber optic matrix switching technology available in the marketplace. The Star-Switch Model 1600 interconnects computer, telecommunications and cable TV networks ranging in size from a few fibers to 16 input and 16 output fibers. The photonic technology used in all of the Star-Switch products overcomes the limitations of electro-optical switching and enhances fiber optics from a manual point-to-point system to an automated network -- all without having to convert optical transmissions to intermediate electronic signals. This technology provides switching of optical signals that carry bandwidth in excess of 10 gigahertz with less than 2dB of loss.
