MCDONNELL DOUGLAS CORP. ACTIVELY DISCUSSING STRATEGIC ALLIANCES

MCDONNELL DOUGLAS CORP. ACTIVELY DISCUSSING STRATEGIC ALLIANCES
ST. LOUIS, Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- To support the launch of new commercial aircraft, including the MD-12, McDonnell Douglas Corp. (NYSE: MD) is actively discussing strategic alliances with organizations in other parts of the world, principally the Asia/Pacific region. McDonnell Douglas is having discussions with large risk-sharing subcontractors and potential equity investors which provide a globally competitive production capability, financial strength and a major presence in the Asia/Pacific region. Among these discussions is one involving a potential equity investment by third party investors in up to 40 percent of McDonnell Douglas' commercial transport business for up to $2 billion. No understanding has yet been reached and no definitive agreement is imminent. In the event that any agreement is reached, there is no assurance that any transaction will be completed in accordance with such terms.
Regardless of any equity investment, the commercial and government programs of Douglas Aircraft Co. will become separate operating units for accounting purposes effective Jan. 1, 1992. The realignment is expected to allow DAC to optimize its systems to better meet the unique requirements of its commercial and government customers.
