MCDONALD'S DONATES FOOD AND FUNDS TO MIDWEST FLOOD VICTIMS

CHICAGO, July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- McDonald's franchisees, suppliers and customers are joining Ronald McDonald Children's Charities (RMCC) and the American Red Cross in providing assistance to the families and children affected by the flood disaster in the Mississippi River Valley.
RMCC, McDonald's charitable foundation, announced a grant of $100,000 to the American Red Cross for use in the five most affected states, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois. Collection canisters in participating McDonald's in those states will also be devoted to funds for the Red Cross and many McDonald's restaurants are providing food and water to families and relief workers in the affected communities.
"Flood victims are having difficulty getting food, water and other necessities," says Ken Barun, president, Ronald McDonald Children's Charities. "This money will help the Red Cross in their efforts to get the relief supplies to the families that need it most, particularly the children."
"Our nation is deeply concerned about the devastation caused by this disaster," said American Red Cross President Elizabeth Dole. "We are grateful to RMCC and McDonald's for their continued support of our disaster relief efforts."
The South Florida Chapter of RMCC has also made a $10,000 donation in an effort to give a helping hand to those who rallied to their support during last year's devastating Hurricane Andrew disaster.
The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. It does this through services that are consistent with its Congressional Charter and the principles of the International Red Cross movement.
Ronald McDonald Children's Charities, established in memory of McDonald's Corporation founder, Ray A. Kroc, helps young people lead healthier, happier and more productive lives.
